Personal: Cynthia was born in Washington, D.C. and raised in Maryland.
Education: Cynthia graduated from the University of Maryland with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication in 2016. After taking two gap years, she attended Elon University School of Law in Greensboro and graduated in December 2020.
Cynthia knew she wanted to become a lawyer when she was 16 years old. She completed legal internships throughout high school and worked for an insurance defense firm prior to attending college at the University of Maryland. As an undergraduate student, she interned at the criminal court in Upper Marlboro, Maryland as well as an immigration firm in Silver Spring, Maryland. Upon her graduation in 2016, she relocated to North Carolina and worked as a public high school Spanish teacher and junior varsity soccer coach in Greensboro. Thereafter, she attended Elon Law, where she was a Leadership Fellow, Dean’s Scholar, and the Co-Founder/President of the Hispanic and Latinx Law Students Association. As a law student, Cynthia focused on building her legal knowledge across multiple areas and practices by interning for an appellate judge, non-profit organizations, the Mecklenburg County Public Defender’s Office, and private firms. She graduated in December 2020 and was admitted to the State Bar of North Carolina in April 2021.
Professional and Training: Cynthia’s practice primarily consists of representing clients in family-based immigration and criminal defense cases. Prior to joining Johnson & Nicholson, PLLC, she worked in the Mecklenburg County Public Defender’s Office in Charlotte, where she handled misdemeanor criminal matters in district court. She also clerked at a prominent immigration firm in Greensboro after passing the state bar examination.
Memberships: Cynthia is a member of the North Carolina State Bar, North Carolina Bar Association, American Immigration Lawyers’ Association, and the Mecklenburg County Bar.
Awards: Cynthia was named as one of Charlotte’s 30 Under 30 “Future Leaders of Charlotte” in 2022. She received Elon Law’s Pro Bono Recognition Award in 2020 for completing over 75 hours of pro bono work as a law student.

Family: When Cynthia is not in the office, she enjoys spending time with her family, traveling, hiking, watching the Baltimore Ravens, and checking out the Charlotte restaurant scene. She lives in Charlotte with her fiancé and their Keeshond, Cole.
